Tobago is the smaller island within the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and lies northeast of mainland Trinidad and southeast of Grenada. Tobago is known for its wide beaches and biodiverse tropical rainforest. It has been a beach travel destination for those who have long appreciated the delightful combination of both mountain and coastal views.

Cuisine: Pelau, a rice-based dish, is a very popular dish in Trinidad and Tobago, as well as stewed chicken, breadfruit oil down, macaroni pie, pepperpot, and ox-tails. One of the most popular Trinidadian dishes is curried duck served with either roti or rice.

Notable Tobagonians: Lalonde Gordon was born in Lowlands on November 25, 1988 and won a bronze medal in the 2012 London Olympic Games, competing in the 400-metres relay. He was also part of the Trinidad and Tobago four-by-400-metre relay team that won a silver medal in the 2012 Olympics.


Fun Fact: In 1958, Tobago was chosen by the Walt Disney Company as the setting for their forthcoming film based on the Johann Wyss novel, Swiss Family Robinson.
